Apple is going to outdo even itself when it launches the iPhone 6 later in the year as the company is planning the biggest launch in smartphone history. Of course, Cupertino always has the biggest launches, with not even Samsung able to boast the sales Apple can get, but for the iPhone 6 the numbers are staggering.
Before rolling out the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c last year, Apple requested that its suppliers (such as Foxconn) build between 50 and 60 million units to meet demand. Of course, we now know that the iPhone 5s still sold out, so Cupertino is asking for even more units this time, with the company’s suppliers tasked with building between 70 and 80 million units before December 30th.
Apple is preparing to deal with the huge demand that the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and the 5.5-inch iPhone phablet will bring, while also trying to cover the Holiday Season. No other company could even dream of selling 80 million units of a device through a launch window, but Apple will, and the company is even likely to run out as demand overtakes supply once again.
With these kinds of numbers, it is easy to see why Apple is comfortable in its position of having the best-selling individual smartphone. The iPhone 6 will sell tens of millions of units within weeks of its launch and will in all likelihood become the biggest selling smartphone over the span of its lifetime by a large margin. Get ready for the long queues and massive demand all over again.
